New in the Neighborhood: House of Movement

Brickell Homeowners Association is pleased to welcome The House of Movement as a new member and neighbor. Soon to open at 1900 Brickell Avenue, this unique site brings together two families – the Valdes family and the Benito-Felix family – under one roof and ready to energize Brickell.

A Pilates Passion Produces Partnership

Gladys Valdes started taking Pilates in 2012 and became a passionate devotee last year when she began training privately with Delia Benito. When Delia mentioned that she envisioned opening a studio, Gladys told her she wanted to be her partner. The business liaison led them to Brickell Avenue.

Born and raised in Miami, Gladys is the mother of three children along with husband, Efrain. The Valdes’s are entrepreneurs who love the excitement of new business ventures and together own Ibiley Manufacturing and a fast-growing chain of bakeries, Pinecrest Bakery.

Pinecrest Bakery treated BHA neighbors to a gorgeous, delicious cake at the Holiday Celebration in December.

The Valdes’s introduced themselves to the Brickell neighborhood by generously providing delicious baked goods from their Pinecrest Bakery for the Brickell Holiday Celebration in December. Brickell residents were enthralled by the gorgeous cake and sumptuous, savory and sweet baked goods. If the tremendous success of their eight-location Pinecrest Bakery business is any indication, Gladys and Efrain’s next concept will be another winner.

Movement is Life and Life is Movement!

The Valdes’ view their latest venture, The House of Movement, as an opportunity to inspire people to incorporate fitness and wellness into their lives, achieved through Pilates, Yoga, Ballet, other forms of fitness and dance classes, along with spa and health services.

Gladys’ business partner, Delia Benito, was born in Spain and began dancing Classical Ballet and Flamenco when she was only 4 years old. Delia has dedicated her life to music, sports and dance. She holds certifications in Aerobics, Step, Spinning, Body Pump, Body Balance, Gyrotonic, Personal Training and Yoga. She is also certified in giving fitness classes to the elderly and received Doula training (which focuses on the emotional needs of women in labor) and Yoga Post Partum classes with Sonic Yoga in New York.

In 1999, Delia discovered Pilates when she started taking classes with one of the best training teachers in Spain, Fernando Gil, a training teacher in Polestar Pilates. Polestar-trained Pilates teachers’ mission is to educate movement science professionals in the application of movement as a means of enriching lives and fostering the development of mind, body, spirit and community. In 2002, Delia was certified in Pilates Mat by FEDA, a federation authorized for teachers in areas of the discipline.

Delia’s passion for Pilates took her to New York City where she worked at Sal Anthony’s Movement Salon and Movements Afoot Studio. Delia’s goal is to help people become more aware of their body, mind and soul, by utilizing various methods in order to train their bodies to find balance and develop good posture.

Fellow instructor and husband, Alex, started practicing Pilates in 2008 to improve overall performance in his background of Martial Arts and B-Boyin (Break Dancing). Alex has trained with some of the top B-boys in the world and pioneers of the dance including Crazy Legs, Kwik Step and Rokafella. He holds certifications in Pilates, Gyrotonic, and CRM which is Circuit Resistance Training and combines weight training and cardiovascular training all in one. Alex’s purpose is to make people feel and look better through his knowledge of different fitness activities.

The House of Movement family invites Brickell neighbors to join the journey in finding a balanced mind, body and soul through a holistic approach to fitness, health and life.
