Juan Cordoba is All about Business on Brickell

As Vice President of Commercial Lines for Wells Fargo Insurance Services of Florida, Juan Cordoba realizes the powerful networking and business opportunities that an established and growing metropolitan neighborhood such as Brickell can provide. A great deal of Juan’s business portfolio is centered on Brickell and Juan’s involvement in Brickell Homeowners Association has helped him develop business relationships in other communities.

“My main clientele is on Brickell, and I personally love Brickell. It has experienced a lot of growth and provides great opportunities,” Juan said. “Brickell is my letter of recommendation to other communities who look to Brickell, know its success and admire it.”

Originally from Columbia, Juan first experienced life in the United States as high school exchange student in Chicago. Miami and its promise of business prospects and sunny weather beckoned a few years later. While initially enrolled at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellin, he opted as a 19-year-old to finalize his degree in Finance Management, cum laude, at Florida International University. He has lived and worked on Brickell for the past 10 years. And for the past six years, he has been associated with Wells Fargo.

Benefit of BHA Board Leadership

When asked what motivated him to get involved with BHA, Juan immediately mentions his friendship with Immediate Past BHA Board President Ernesto Cuesta. “I first became involved by knowing Ernesto,” Juan said. As the youngest BHA Board member, Juan feels his experience has been like an apprenticeship. He also says that acquiring knowledge from peers is important to him, and BHA proved to be a great fit.juanquote1

“I have always been attracted by being mentored personally and professionally by successful people. My fellow Board members are successful, good people who have the experience and wisdom to help my career. Many that I have met through BHA have contributed to my professional growth and career,” he said.

Juan adds that his Board experience has also helped him learn about politics on the local level as it pertains to Brickell and the numerous advocacy issues BHA spearheads. Juan says his work on the BHA Board “makes me want to get more involved in a future leadership role…it has taught me how to contribute in a place like Miami that is growing so fast.”

As the father of a four-year-old son, Juan would like to see more progress made toward establishing an accessible public school in the Brickell area. Because there are so many families like Juan’s, living in the Brickell area, the need for schools is compelling. Juan envisions more family events like Movie Nights and other events in the 1814 Brickell Park. Some of his ideas for future events include sporting events such as a 5k run or hike and bike event.

Juan summarized his vision for BHA with these thoughts: “Miami is so fast paced that BHA needs to be fast paced also. We need to continue attracting residents by getting louder, working faster, gaining more recognition, introducing Brickell area businesses to the Brickell residents and engaging them through business-tobusiness relationships.”
