Veena Pajabi moved and Jan Jones seconded that the reading
of the February Board Meeting minutes be waived and the minutes
accepted as published. The motion passed unanimously.
President's Report
Next Meeting: The next meeting will be held a week
earlier, on Wed., April 12, at the Villa Regina, at which Mayor
Carollo will be in attendance. This will be a meeting of all
BHA Member Presidents, as well as representatives and
managers.
Property Tax Information: Printouts with Homestead
Exemption information included were distributed to each condo
association present with the remainder to be mailed.
Air Quality: DERM studied the emissions along Brickell
and found the area is well below allowable limits.
1900 Brickell Avenue: No news from the city on whether
the spa is allowable.
Membership: Two new Associate members have joined (Terremark/Millennium
& Constructa) for a total membership of 28 condo members
and 11 associate members.
Introductions: Christine Bahamonde, Aide, and Ron Lieberman,
Mayor Carollo's new Chief of Staff, were introduced.
Brickell Medians
The City of Miami has found funds to match the State's grant
application. The landscape architect firm of Wallace, Robinson
& Todd will prepare the plans to accompany the application.
Gerald Marston said his firm will address the previous problems
with the leaky pipe irrigation system, plant choice and visibility
around turn areas. Enrique Nunez and Alberto Dominguez of the
City's Dept. of Public Works said they "have a good team
to do the job right this time," whereas "in the past
we had problems with the original design, and a contractor that
didn't perform well." The BHA was asked to provide a letter
of support to accompany the grant application.
Police Report
Lt. Mirabile reported burglaries are down, with only two car
thefts in a recent week. The Police have been focusing on the
parking situation in Coral Way area and writing tickets and finding
stolen cars.)
The Security Seminar, organized by Lt. Mirabile and
Mac Seligman, was a big success, attended by some 40 BHA building
representatives, management and security personnel.
Statue. The Police are hosting a benefit concert on
April 1st to help fund a statue made of guns.
Bruce Cotten moved and Florence Mazer seconded that the BHA
purchase $500 worth of tickets for the Rey Casas concert to help
support the statue.
The motion passed unanimously.
BAA Report on Brickell Park
No headway being made yet in discussions with what can be
done to rescind the City Commission's design to sell the public
park to settle a legal dispute with the Brickell family.
The meeting adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
The next meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday,
April 12, Villa Regina
