President's Report
Mayor Carollo had to cancel his attendance but Christine Bahamonde is here from his staff in his place.

Presidents in attendance from various member associations were introduced.

1900 Brickell Avenue. City and Zoning Enforcement staff have determined that the plastic surgeon can have the spa but the sign must be removed. The BHA has 15 days to appeal this determination. Attorney Jeffrey Bass advised BHA to sue for the original covenants to be upheld, which the Board agreed to do.

Children's Museum at Vizcaya Station. The board of the Museum are seeking a better location for their new building after much opposition from the neighbors concerned about the impact the facility will have on traffic and residential ambiance.

Brickell Medians. Jerry Marsten will report about what's planned for Brickell Avenue from 5th to 25th Roads. BHA will get to review the plans for plantings in late summer/early fall. BHA may consider augmenting the funds to provide for 1) expanded irrigation through the entire median (not just at the ends); 2) lighting; 3) maintenance. The Brickell Area Association will augment their areas to include dramatic lighting.

Joe Wilkins, for Simpson Park
Park management wants to include the trees along the road outside of the Park wall as part of the Park as the area is being overrun with homeless people. The Miami Roads Neighborhood Civic Association has passed a resolution and BHA was asked for a resolution supporting this plan. Ron Smith moved and Florence Mazer seconded that the BHA pass a resolution in support of adding the area to the Park. The motion passed unanimously.

City of Miami Police Report, Hector Mirabile
For the first time in 5 years burglaries are down (13%) and violent crime is down (48%). Brickell Townhouse was having some problems. The Lt. recommends upgrading locks to the Medeco brand which are impossible to pick.

The City's proposal for "entertainment districts" would bring all-night clubs to the area north of the Brickell residential area. In general, Miami Police are trying to increase night time police due to increased nightlife.

Metropolitan Work Hours: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday for piling and pouring of concrete. This was okayed by the City Manager's office.

Brickell Park Sale
The Miami Commissioners have been asked by a number of groups to reconsider their decision to sell the Park. Miami River Commission has added it to its "greenways project."

BHA Website
A presentation of the new site at www.brickellhomeowners.com was made by Natalie Brown and Webmaster Brooks Weisblat showing photos of the 35 member properties; 15 past newsletters reformatted and indexed by topic; five years of minutes; summary writeup and previous PAC news; organization overview materials; bylaws; five interactive response forms; hotlinks; purpose section; and business directory with logos and links.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:10 p.m. The next meeting will be Wed., May 17, Santa Maria.
