Board of Directors Meeting
May 19, 1999, Santa Maria
The meeting was called to order at 6:10
p.m.
It was moved by Mel Frankel and seconded
by Ron Smith that the reading of the minutes from the March 1999
meeting and the April 1999 meeting be waived and they be approved
as published. The motion passed unanimously.
President's Report
City of Miami Coral Way NET Office. Tony
Wagner, the new administrator, was introduced and welcomed.
Aircraft Noise Abatement. A workshop session is scheduled for May 26th
at County Hall, 6 p.m., involving airport representatives, county
commissioners and task force participants.
Brickell Medians.
Not much progress since the last meeting. Jim Kay, the City's
Public Works Director, is distressed at the lack of progress
in fixing the irrigation system and the landscaping in the medians.
He reported that he hopes to see progress in two weeks.
New Speeding Signs and Deterents. The FDOT machine for manufacturing reflectors
is broken down, so they've reported a delay in getting the work
at 15th Road accomplished.
Supplemental Waste Fee. The City Treasurer is trying to figure out how
to make the rebates to the condo associations that paid this
fee that was later rescinded.
New Development at 2101-2105 Brickell
Avenue (Brickell Bay Village). Concerns relating to density and
the FAR bonuses granted surround the proposed 421-unit building
by neighbors, especially residents of the Atlantis and the Bristol
Tower, its adjoining neighbors. The matter is expected to come
before the City of Miami Commission on June 22nd.

Supplemental Waste Fee. Expect at least
another two to four weeks for refunds.
Around the City.
The Commissioner reported general city news relating to Virrick
Park; code enforcement for signs and advertisements illegally
nailed on trees and in other locations; and lot clearing and
the new team of inspectors hired for this effort at code enforcement.
Report from Developer Harvey Taylor
Potential Florida Marlins Site. Harvey Taylor and other private interests have
amassed property on the Miami River that they are proposing for
a 44,000-seat retractable dome stadium for the Marlins. Both
mayors (Dade and Miami) have endorsed the project which would
include retail development at the same time. The Marlins are
expected to choose their site by the end of June/beginning of
July.
Publix.
Plans are in the works for the property next to Publix for retail
and residential development. The parking lot would go underground.
He is looking to put another Publix somewhere in the area.
The next meeting will be held Wednesday,
June 16.
