President's Report
Fire. There was a fire today in
Brickell Townhouse. No injuries, but a lot of smoke. Some lessons
to be learned for other buildings about emergency procedures.
Daniel Ponce met with Fire Dept. today which said they would
be willing to talk with individual buildings about their specific
needs. They'll come in in a "good citizens" mode and
advise, vs. cite buildings for violations.
Banners off the medians 15th to 26th Roads. City was
successful
in removing them.
Property tax records. Each building manager gets them
every year. May now be available on the web. Will
advise.
Jeffrey Giordano's Police Report
Southside Elementary School turkey
drive is this Friday.
Shared trespassing
signage info.
Five robberies in Brickell area
during October. No set patternappears
to be
random.
Downtown NET Administrator Patricia
Castro
LaMans
group coordinating for
the race in downtown area.
Late January/early February will begin.
Terremark project on hold until the NAP is completed (less than
6 months).
Meters to be upgraded on 15th
Roadwas supposed to already be
done. Ms. Castro
said they are starting in the Grove, will take
3-4
weeks and then going north on Brickell.
Bill
Sadowski sign falling apart on 15th Road and the Bay. Patricia
will look into.
Traffic
Ms. Castro was asked about the
traffic committee
and its status in light of all the new development
in the area. Mel Frankel proposed a resolution (attached) that
the BHA request City Administration and the new Mayor to revisit
and study zoning ordinances between Miami River, I-95, the Bay
and Rickenbacker as it relates to density and zoning. Berdie
Archer seconded the resolution and it passed
unanimously.
Patricia Castro says she can pull the
right people from City Administration to the next meeting. Judge
John Gale will chair the committee.
Brickell Streetscape Recommendations:
Paul Lewin, committee chair.
Lewin moved that we vote on pursuing
funding for each of the four components of the Wallace Roberts
Todd proposal for beautification.
1.
Pedestrian Lighting - Passed unanimously
2.
Entrance Landscapes/Monument at south end and perhaps at north
ends. Requires additional design development; proposal contains
ideas only. Passed with 2 oppositions.
3.
Microparks bus stops or places for people to gather
to bring life on the street. A condo would have to give up a
piece of property. It was decided the BHA will investigate if
no expenditure.
4. Adoption of landscape design
guidelines for properties on
west side for
properties that renovate or redevelop. We could
ask
the City to come up with something. They're doing it now
for Brickell Village (urban design which will include signs,
streetscape and architectural) The recommendation passed
unanimously.
Mayor Diaz dropped by for a visit and
thanks for support that helped get him elected.
Meeting adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
