The motion passed unanimously.
President's Report
1900 Brickell Ave. Court
supports our position that "medical/surgical procedures"
are not allowed at the facility according to the original terms
of the covenant, which means the "spa" sign must come
down. We're asking the City to uphold the court ruling, change
the sign and limit what the surgeon can do there.
Traffic
At last meeting BHA passed a resolution relating to density
and traffic in the Brickell area, which will be on the City
Commission
agenda on Thur., Jan. 24, 6 pm, time
certain. Residents are urged
to attend to show
their concern, especially as it relates to
Brickell
Village.
Landscaping on 25th Road East of Brickell Avenue, the medians, irrigation
system, two benches by water's edge are in place.
Alice Wainwright Park Improved
Full-time staff member there.
New children's playground. Looks good, recommend a visit if you
haven't been there lately.
Brickell Area Traffic
Maria Nardi presented what the
City is planning relating to Brickell traffic concerns. She reported
that HOK came up with design guidelines for Brickell Village,
as a result of consensus that there is no single unifying element
for character in the area. New urbanism principles are guided
their planning process which includes consideration for pedestrian
concerns and streetscapes. The goal is to agree upon urban and
architectural guidelines that developers will be bound to follow.
The recommendations are in draft form now and will soon go to
Planning Advisory Board; could be in place in February 2002.
Will be on the City's Web page for access by community, developers,
etc.
Planning
Dept will be hiring a traffic
consultant. While
each new development project has its own consultant,
the Planning Dept. wants an independent opinion. Every MUSP will
be charged an extra $4,500 to cover the costs.
Police Report Officer Jeff
Giordano
Be
aware of holidays and increase
in robberies, purse
snatchings. Police have decoys out there.
Six
robberies in the past month on Brickell. Mostly on
weekends.
Goals
& Objectives for 2002? What
do you want to see
happen next year in your area? How can the
Police
Dept. come closer to serving you as a citizen? What community
events do you want? Contact Jeff.
Report from Commander Frank Fernandez
(Newly appointed in charge of
Brickell and Coral Way.) Commander reported on traffic concerns
and the Brickell Bridge and construction blocking roadways in
the area.
Judge
John Gale moved and Jan Jones seconded
that BHA
writes a letter of commendation for Jeff Giordano in
thanking him for his responsiveness and suggestions for handling
our problems. The motion passed unanimously.
Next Meeting: Jan. 16, 2002.
