Ultra Music Festival to be held on Virginia Key

Despite the objections of Key Biscayne and Brickell residents, the Ultra Music Festival has received agreement from the City of Miami to hold its event March 29-31, 2019 on historic Virginia Key Beach.  Concerned neighbors attended the City of Miami Commission Meeting on November 15th to oppose the City of Miami Resolution‘s approving the Ultra Music Festival at Virginia Key.

Neighbors fear the three-day event drawing some 50,000 attendees daily will be an environmental, traffic, and safety disaster for Virginia Key. But despite the coalition of businesses, community, and government organizations saying “NO” to Ultra, the City said “yes” and is moving forward with its plans. Previously for many years the event had been held in Downtown’s Bayfront Park, disturbing thousands of residents during the loud event, and disrupting life in leading up to it with staging and set up.

The City didn’t renew its agreement with Ultra for the coveted Bayfront site a couple of months ago, apparently hatching a new plan for another prized bayfront location, this time in the midst of a historic and environmentally sensitive site. Elected City of Miami officials never discussed this new location with BHA or other community members, apparently. The plan became public just days before City Commissioners voted in favor of the Virginia Key Beach location.
